The internet is great, but relying too heavily on it during a real estate transaction can lead to these five specific mistakes.

The internet is a great resource, but be careful not to rely on it too heavily when embarking on a real estate transaction. There are five top mistakes people make when buying a home using the internet.

1. Working with the first agent who contacts you. After logging your information online, it isn’t always a good idea to use the first agent who finds it and reaches out. Do your research and hire an agent who will do the job right.

2. Using third-party estimates. Websites like Zillow use highly flawed algorithms to determine home value. Never, ever trust the figures these algorithms provide.

3. Looking for homes on inaccurate sites. Unfortunately, a lot of websites contain inaccurate or outdated data when it comes to home listings. The listings you see online might already be under contract. If you want to search online for homes, I highly recommend you use our website, which is updated multiple times every day.

4. Using internet mortgage calculators. If you are curious about what your monthly payments will be, always work with a lender. The figures you’ll find online will be extremely inaccurate.

5. Using an online mortgage company. I would advise you to talk to local lenders instead. This way, you’ll be able to get legitimate advice from a real person. Online mortgage companies may work, but they aren’t necessarily the most effective option.
