Should you go the “For Sale By Owner” route? You may think that you save money by not hiring an agent, but the FSBO process can cost you.

How Much Is Your Mount Pleasant Home Worth?
Listing your home as “For Sale By Owner” may not be the most advantageous way to sell your home. Even though you think you’re saving money, you may actually end up losing money in the long run.
Selling your home as a FSBO property is actually a daunting task, as there are 115 different variables in the selling process that have to be proactively managed if you want to get top dollar for your home.
Going the FSBO route with no marketing experience, expertise in the market, or insurance to cover things that may go wrong is very risky. You could wind up leaving a lot of money on the table or setting yourself up for failure.
When selling your home, ultimately the final sales price is a function of supply and demand. When you try to sell your home as “For Sale By Owner,” you are not able to generate the level of demand that a professional real estate agent would, which ultimately lowers your sales price.
“Work with a professional real estate agent to sell faster and for more money.”
In fact, about four months ago a lady was trying to sell her home at $510,000 in West Ashley. When the home failed to sell, she called us. We came in and showed her some things we would change with the marketing and presentation of the property. We even took her price up an additional $30,000. She had been trying to sell her home for a couple months, but we sold it in 10 days and for more money than she originally planned.
She sold her home faster and for more money once she hired me, a professional real estate agent. At the end of the day, net proceeds are the only thing a seller cares about.
That’s why the FSBO route can be so challenging. I recommend calling a professional real estate agent. They will give you expert advice to sell your home quickly and for top dollar. Plus, when you work with an agent you will be protected with insurance and not set up with any liability on your side.

I had no idea that there were over 115 different variables in the selling process. My wife and I need to move for my work and want to sell our home quickly. It sounds like it could be more complex than I first imagined. Getting a real estate agent may be the best option for us.
I like that you so clearly stated how working with a professional is the best way. My brother is looking to hire a real estate agency. I’ll be sure to talk to him about all the benefits so he knows to stick with them.
Recently, my mother has been getting more serious about hiring a real estate agent. She wants to move out of the old family home and into something newer, and smaller. Her home would sell faster if she had an agent and I agree.
I’m looking to move in the next couple of months, and I’ve been debating on whether or not I should work with a real estate agent during the process. It was interesting to me though that you mention working with an agent can help ensure my home sells faster and for more money. If this is the case, then I definitely wouldn’t mind hiring an agent so I can get moved out as soon as possible.
